Reference – This page is a collection of the native plants that we have successfully raised or propagated in our nursery since 2009. It is intended to serve as an educational tool, providing an opportunity to learn a bit about some of the more common plants native to the state of Ohio. Pure Joy - We don’t necessarily raise all of the species listed, some were either too "pushy" or didn't thrive in our nursery. Since time, energy and space are limited commodities, we tweak our inventory a bit each season. More importantly, is how much fun it is learning to propagate new species! Pure Joy! Prairie Violets
A yellow and black butterfly swooping near the large yellow flowers, that have lots of petals.
Cup Plant
The yellow flowers are still tightly closed and seem to be waiting to bloom.
Ohio Goldenrod
One spike flower with numerous little white flowers growing from the stem
Foamflower
The background it out of focus, in the center is a plant whose flowers stick up like fingers. One "finger" is purple.
Hoary Verain
One Yellow flower, if it were white it would look like a snowflake. There is a bee visiting.
Golden Alexanders
Huge, course leaves that are approximately 15 inches long and 10 inches wide.
Prairie Dock
The background is black which makes a stunning contrast to the pale purple flowers, which have numerous petals and a yellow center
Smooth Blue Aster
a field of blue flowers on grass like stems.
Ohio Spiderwort
Lavender flowers, that look like nature put them in gorgeous bouquet.
Giant Ironweed
Tiny delicate flowers that are pale blue. You can see the dark blue lines that help guide insects that are looking for nectar and pollen.
Common Blue-eyed Grass
Four bright purple flowers that each have 70 or so thin feathery petals.
New England Aster
The yellow flowers are always droopy. The leaves are healthy and strong
Great Merrybells
A dozen candle like shaped white flowers with a huge bumblebee visiting.
